Music Sequencing

Intro

I first became interested in music sequencing when I was in grade 10 of high school. A friend of mine introduced me to a program called Impulse Tracker. Over the years I have used various other trackers such as Buzz Tracker (image on left) and Fruity Loops. In University, I took a course called Electro Acoustic Music Composition which gave me a better understanding of studio enviroments. While there, I worked on many compositions while learning a Mac-based sequencing software called Pro Tools.

Below are a few tracks I produced over the years (MP3 format).

Tracks

  • Trek Dron 2000 - This track was one of my first using Impulse Tracker. This tracking software varies the speeds at which samples are played to change the pitch of the samples.
  • Voyage - This track was created using Pro Tools. All samples where collected using a Mini Disk recorder and modified using Pro Tools and a MIDI controller was also used to control some of the real time effects.
  • Orange Spin - A fun track using off beat synth to give it a kick.
  • The Drummer Chaos Engine - A good kicking track.
  • PBCIC - This track has samples from Pachebel's Canon mixed in with some smooth synth-lines.
  • Synth - An interesting track composed from a Buzz Tracker plugin and processed with various filters on parallel busses. I Initially had a base line drop in half way but decided to keep it just synth.
  • Won-a Know - I created this track in record time using samples of my firend Matt, combined with an old-school quote from the the movie "Star Trek - The Motion Picture".
