MISSION

Its missions are the following:

Our services are available to everyone irrespective of race, color, nationality, marital status, sex, sexual orientation or creed.

OUR HISTORY

Africans Against Slavery was established following the experience of one of its founders who was a victim of child trafficking, slavery, abuse and exploitation in New York City for 12 years.  Following her eventual freedom and successful prosecution of her case in United States Court (in the year 1998), and spurred on by a wide range of response by the public on the complex nature of the underground phenomena, Africans Against Slavery was established to connect the victims with the support systems in this country.

Africans Against Slavery has not received any grant funding yet.  Our Board of Directors and team of volunteers have sustained the organization during this process of program planning and development.  With necessary funding we will acquire office space which will be a central base from which our clients will receive programmatic services.

One of our clients at this moment is a female who was trafficked into the United States at age of 11 as a housemaid taking care of two children then.  She was impregnated by her master at the age of 13, and Child Welfare Administration placed her in the foster care system.  Her family ties were broken and her true identity was lost for a long time.  She currently has some very serious problems, and with no family members or relatives in the United States, she is currently stranded.  She has been living with a very generous American family she met since foster care placement 11 years ago.  Some of her goals are to attend school, obtain permanent resident status (green card), improve her health situation and visit her family in Africa for the first time in 13 years.  There are many more with this kind of experience.

Africans Against Slavery has a team of individuals well versed on the issues of human trafficking.  It is committed to overcome the denial syndrome, the code of silence, and the uncaring attitude toward the plight of the victims held by the community of Africans living in America.  It seeks to really bring out the best in our community to deal with the issues for the betterment of humanity.
